Mental health evaluation OK'd for suspect in assault, burglary cases

The Daily Times - 6/8/2018

Louisville man who allegedly attacked his girlfriend-turned ex twice in a six-week period and went on the run from pursuing police will have a mental health evaluation before his next court hearing.

A Louisville man who allegedly attacked his girlfriend-turned ex twice in a six-week period and went on the run from pursuing police will have a mental health evaluation before his next court hearing.

At a hearing Thursday in Blount County General Sessions Court, prosecutors said 48-year-old Aaron David Switzer and his attorney, Charles Deas, recently asked for the evaluation.

Blount County Assistant District Attorney General Tracy Jenkins told Judge Robert L. Headrick that prosecutors had agreed to the evaluation. Headrick said he would reschedule the case for a July 26 hearing where the results would be examined.

Switzer is facing several felony charges from incidents earlier this year where he is accused of assaulting his former girlfriend.

In the latest incident, reported April 1, Switzer allegedly rammed the woman’s vehicle in Townsend and then eluded police for several days before being captured. While he was on the run, he broke into a Townsend residence and stole several items, police said.

Switzer also is charged in an alleged aggravated assault in February against the same woman, who was his girlfriend at the time. It ended with her taking a trip to the hospital with possible head injuries, police said. That charge is pending in Blount County Circuit Court.

In all, he faces two counts of aggravated domestic assault, one count each of aggravated burglary and aggravated assault and two counts of violating a “no contact” order as part of his bond conditions.

He was facing several additional violations of that order after allegedly contacting the woman while in jail, but those charges since have been dismissed.

Court records show Switzer has a lengthy criminal history in Blount County dating back to 1991. It includes a number of convictions for drug possession, aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, vandalism, felony theft, DUI and violation of probation.
